BNP candidates dominate land ownership among election contenders: TIB
BNP candidates feature prominently among major landholders, with three appearing in the top 10 for agricultural land and six in the top 10 for non-agricultural land.
BNP candidates have emerged as the largest landowners among those contesting the upcoming national election, according to an analysis of affidavits by Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB).
The analysis shows that BNP candidates occupy leading positions in both agricultural and non-agricultural land ownership. BNP candidates feature prominently among major landholders, with three appearing in the top 10 for agricultural land and six in the top 10 for non-agricultural land.
According to the disclosed information, Md Ali Abbas, the BNP candidate from Chattogram-13, ranks first in both agricultural and non-agricultural land categories, with a total landholding of 1,290.26 acres.
Other BNP candidates with substantial land ownership include Md Abdur Rauf of Satkhira-2, who owns 230.81 acres, Saching Prue of Bandarban with 77.87 acres, and Saeed Al Noman of Chattogram-10, who owns 60.41 acres of land.
Among independent candidates, Kazi Khairuzzaman (Shipon) from Bagerhat-4 owns 100 acres of agricultural land, while MAH Selim, an independent candidate from Bagerhat-1, owns a total of 81.78 acres of land.
The analysis further reveals that Jamaat candidate Md Anwar Hossain from Dinajpur-5 owns a total of 236.88 acres of agricultural and non-agricultural land, while Helal Uddin, the Islami Andolon candidate from Lakshmipur-2, owns 230 acres of non-agricultural land.
