Security intensified at Evercare as BNP supporters gather ahead of Tarique's visit to Khaleda

BNP leaders and activists began gathering outside Evercare Hospital in Dhaka today (25 December) as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) stepped up security at the facility and other key locations ahead of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman's planned visit to see his mother, party chairperson Khaleda Zia.
Confirming the deployment, BGB Media Wing Public Relations Officer Md Shariful Islam said security measures have been reinforced in and around the hospital.

Mehedi Hasan, a BNP activist who came from the capital's Pallabi, said, "I came here to see our beloved leader up close. There was a huge crowd at 300 Feet. Tarique Rahman's return to the country was marked by a royal reception.
"We hope that the BNP will form the government after the next election. We will work shoulder to shoulder for the development of the country."
BGB personnel have been deployed at several key locations in the capital, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, to maintain law and order ahead of Tarique Rahman's return to the country.
According to the BGB headquarters, several platoons have been stationed at the 300 Feet area, where a grand reception programme is scheduled to be held for Tarique Rahman, as well as in Gulshan, where he is expected to stay.
A BGB dog squad has also been deployed at the VIP terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
Meanwhile, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's physical condition has remained stable over the past month, her personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr AZM Zahid Hossain said on Friday (19 December).
He said Khaleda Zia is currently undergoing treatment in a CCU cabin equipped with ICCU facilities, adding that "it can be said that she is effectively in the ICU."
