Govt aims to send 1.4m workers abroad in FY27
Over 9.33 lakh Bangladeshis secured overseas jobs between July 2025 and May 2026
The government has set a target of sending around 1.4 million Bangladeshi workers abroad in the next fiscal year, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Nurul Haque Nur told parliament today (8 June).
The government was continuing efforts to expand overseas employment opportunities by sending more skilled and professional workers abroad, he said.
The state minister made the remarks while speaking on behalf of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury during the second sitting of the second session of the 13th parliament.
Responding to a starred question from Dhaka-1 lawmaker Khondkar Abu Ashfaq, Nur said a total of 9,33,815 Bangladeshi workers secured jobs in different countries between 1 July 2025 and 31 May 2026.
He also said diplomatic negotiations were ongoing with Malaysia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, and Bahrain to reopen or expand labour market access for Bangladeshi workers in countries where recruitment remains closed or restricted.
