Salman F Rahman, former adviser to ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina, has been shown arrested in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) over embezzlement of funds taken as loans from IFIC Bank.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib granted the ACC's request to show him arrested in the case today (21 July).
According to ACC findings, Salman F Rahman embezzled over Tk1,100 crore from IFIC Bank by setting up fake companies. Based on this evidence, the ACC filed two cases against 38 individuals, including Salman F Rahman, his son Shayan F Rahman, and former Sylhet mayor Anwaruzzaman.
On 13 August last year, acting on a tip-off, police arrested Salman F Rahman from the Sadarghat area of Dhaka while he was allegedly attempting to flee by river. The following day, a court granted a 10-day remand against him in connection with a murder case filed with New Market Police Station. Since then, he has been held in jail after multiple rounds of remand in various police station cases in Dhaka.
