Rajshahi University teacher killed, another critically injured in road accident

A professor from Rajshahi University (RU) was killed and another was critically injured in a road accident near the Mansur Jute Mill area on the Rajshahi-Naogaon Highway in Paba Upazila early this morning (10 October).
The deceased was identified as Professor Shib Shankar Roy of the Department of Marketing. The injured is Professor Asaduzzaman Badsha of the Philosophy Department, who has been admitted to Ward 8 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with severe injuries and is currently unconscious.
The accident occurred around 6:45am. Paba Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam confirmed that police recovered the victims shortly after receiving the news.
Quoting family members, OC Monirul Islam said the two teachers were heading toward Naogaon carrying fishing equipment, which Professor Roy was carrying on his back while Professor Asaduzzaman was driving the scooter. Police reported that the rear tire of the scooter appeared to have burst moments before the accident.
According to the OC, Professor Roy died instantly at the scene after sustaining injuries to his head, neck, and legs. Professor Asaduzzaman remains in critical condition.
"The accident occurred early in the morning, so we have not found any direct witnesses. Furthermore, there are no CCTV cameras in that area," the OC stated.
"The cause of the accident cannot be definitively determined yet. We expect to ascertain the exact circumstances after receiving the inquest and autopsy reports," he added.
