Railway Police arrest fake currency dealer, recover fake notes

On 16 May 2025, at approximately 6:45 PM, the Kishoreganj Railway Police arrested Md. Atiqur Rahman (32), a suspected member of a counterfeit currency ring, was arrested following an intelligence-led operation at Manikkhali Railway Station.
During the arrest, police recovered six fake 1000-taka notes and two fake 500-taka notes.
Md. Atiqur Rahman, an active member of the Facebook page Fake Money and Fake Money Dealer Point, was found to have been involved in the illegal distribution of counterfeit currency. According to his confession, Rahman had been procuring fake notes worth 5000 taka over the past year from a contact in the Chawkbazar area of Comilla city. In return, he paid 12,500 taka for the counterfeit bills.
Rahman stated that he would circulate the fake currency by mixing it with genuine notes in busy markets during the evening, when lighting conditions made it easier to pass off the counterfeit notes. The phoney money ring also used Facebook groups to advertise the sale of counterfeit notes, arranging exchanges at designated locations.
A formal case has been filed at Kishoreganj Railway Police Station, and further investigations are ongoing.
