Protesters gather at Shahbagh for blockade demanding justice for Hadi murder
The DMP today admitted that two men, Faisal Karim Masud and Md Alamgir Sheikh, directly involved in the murder of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi, have fled to India.
Activists of Inqilab Mancha returned to the Shahbagh intersection this morning (28 December), resuming their blockade to demand the immediate arrest and trial of those involved in the killing of the platform's leader, Sharif Osman Hadi.
While the "all-out blockade" was officially scheduled to begin at 2pm today, protesters began gathering as early as 11am.
The group has also extended the movement beyond the capital, calling for similar blockades in all divisional cities across the country, starting this afternoon in an announcement made yesterday.
The protest timing was initially pushed back to 2pm due to a press briefing by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
The surge of activists before noon has already disrupted traffic in the area.
The escalation comes despite a high-level visit to the protest site last night (27 December) by Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan and DMP Commissioner SM Sazzat Ali.
The environment adviser assured the demonstrators of the interim government's commitment to justice, stating that the government is tirelessly working to identify those behind the murder.
She also urged protesters to remain vigilant against opposing forces that might exploit the situation.
DMP Commissioner Sazzat Ali shared significant updates on the probe, noting that law enforcement agencies, including the police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are collaborating closely.

Sharif Osman Hadi, a prominent figure of the July Uprising and an aspiring independent candidate for the upcoming elections, was shot in the head in the Paltan area on 12 December.
After being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Evercare Hospital, he was airlifted to Singapore, where he succumbed to his injuries on 18 December.
His death has sparked a wave of unrest and protests across the country, with his supporters frequently renaming the Shahbagh intersection "Shaheed Hadi Square" during their demonstrations.
