Protesters block Dhaka-Ctg highway in Narayanganj demanding AL ban

Leaders and activists from several organisations, including the National Citizen Party (NCP), blocked the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway at the Signboard area in Narayanganj on Friday night (9 May), demanding a ban on the Awami League.
The blockade began around 9:30pm and continued till 11pm, causing severe traffic congestion stretching several kilometres, our correspondent reported from the spot.
Jabed Alam, district member secretary of Students Against Discrimination, said, "Our demand is to ban the Awami League as a terrorist organisation. This movement will continue until they are officially outlawed."
Amit Hasan, general secretary of Islami Chhatra Shibir's Narayanganj unit, said, "We've taken this stand to demand a political ban on the Awami League. There's been continuous delay on this issue. We will not return home without a clear roadmap or official announcement."
Commenting on the situation earlier, Abu Naeem, in-charge of Shimrail Highway Police Camp, said, "The students are protesting to press for a ban on the Awami League. We are in talks with them to restore normal traffic flow."
