Tarique urges unity to keep country free from extremism
“It is our expectation that this country should never become a sanctuary for extremism or fundamentalism,” he says

BNP acting chairperson Tarique Rahman today (17 August) expressed concern that Bangladesh must not allow extremism or fundamentalism to take root.
"It is our expectation that this country should never become a sanctuary for extremism or fundamentalism," he said while addressing a views-exchange meeting virtually.
Speaking at the event titled "The role and responsibilities of poets and writers in the transition to democracy" at the Jatiya Press Club, organised by the BNP, he said, "All citizens are equal stakeholders of the country, and establishing this truth requires unity for the right to vote, freedom of speech, and ensuring a free and fair election."
Addressing poets and writers present at the event, Tarique said, "There is no difference between your firm stance for independence, sovereignty, and democracy and ours. Political philosophy may differ, but that is not an issue — our shared ground is unwavering trust in the country's sovereignty."
He highlighted the significant role of poets and writers in society, saying that they have long expressed the unspoken emotions of ordinary people.
