Tarique Rahman to visit Bogura on 11 January after 19 years
He will also visit the grave of July Uprising martyr Abu Sayed in Rangpur
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to make his first visit outside Dhaka after homecoming, beginning with a trip to Bogura on 11 January.
The visit will mark his return to his home district after 19 years as he last visited Bogura on 24 December 2006, party sources said.
According to sources at the BNP's Gulshan office, Tarique disclosed his plan to travel to Bogura during an interaction with leaders at the National Press Club yesterday (4 January).
The visit is expected to be finalised at a BNP Standing Committee meeting to be held tonight, after which the detailed schedule may be officially announced, the sources said.
Sources also said Tarique will reach Bogura in the evening of 11 January and stay overnight at a hotel. At 10am on 12 January, he will attend a prayer programme organised by the district BNP at Altafunnessa Playground, seeking forgiveness for the departed soul of his mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia.
Bogura Sadar upazila BNP President Maftun Ahmed Khan Rubel told the media that after the prayer programme, Tarique will tour key city points including Satmatha, Tinmatha and Matidali before heading to Mahasthan to pay respects at the shrine of Hazrat Shah Sultan Balkhi Mahisawar (R).
He will then depart for Rangpur, where he is scheduled to visit the grave of July Uprising martyr Abu Sayed.
