Tarique may return at any moment: Khasru
'Those who spread the rumour of him not coming will continue to spread it', he says
BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said preparations for the return of the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman are nearly complete and that he is expected to return at any moment.
Tarique Rahman is preparing to return and lead the party in the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election, he said at a press conference today (6 December) at a hotel in Banani, Dhaka.
"Tarique Rahman will return to the country soon. Everything is being prepared," he said, dismissing speculation that the BNP acting chairman would not come back.
"Those who spread the rumour of him not coming will continue to spread it," he added.
Asked about the political involvement of Dr Zubaida Rahman, wife of Tarique Rahman, Amir Khasru said any decision in this regard would be entirely her own.
He also said the party's alliance candidates would be finalised shortly.
With the upcoming national polls expected to be held in February, BNP has started announcing its candidates in various seats.
Dr Zubaida Rahman, who is also a member of the medical board overseeing the treatment of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, arrived in Dhaka on Friday.
Khaleda Zia, who remains in critical condition, is expected to be taken to London in an air ambulance for advanced medical treatment once her medical team declares her fit to travel.
