Opening of AL offices in various areas to be addressed legally: Fakhrul
The opening of offices of the banned Awami League in various parts of the country will be addressed in accordance with the law, said Local Government Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (23 February).
Fakhrul, also the BNP secretary general, made the remarks at a press conference at the BNP central office in the Nayapaltan area, responding to questions about the Awami League offices opening across the country.
Fakhrul said, "We did not want this. Since their activities are legally prohibited, the matter will be handled according to the law everywhere."
The minister also said that local government elections are a top priority for the government.
He added that these elections will not be delayed and that the government will arrange them at the proper time once all official rules and term expiries are considered.
He said under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the party is working to build a "new Bangladesh".
He hoped that the BNP will grow stronger under Tarique Rahman and that the government will achieve its objectives.
On nominations for reserved women's seats, he said it is a parliamentary matter, but candidates with strong public and party engagement will be prioritised.
No decision has yet been made on whether multiple members from the same family will be nominated, he added.
