Earlier, on Sunday, the home ministry approved the withdrawal of 1,006 political cases.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the withdrawal of 1,202 more cases filed against leaders and activists of opposition parties during 17 years of the Awami League government, describing them as politically motivated harassment cases.
The ministry's public relations division announced the information today (24 February), with the deputy chief information officer of the ministry, Faisal Hasan, saying Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed had given the approval for withdrawing the cases.
Earlier, on Sunday (22 February), the ministry approved the withdrawal of 1,006 political cases.
At the time, the home minister said approval had been given to withdraw 1,006 cases filed against opposition party leaders and activists during the 17 years of the previous "fascist" government.
Salahuddin called the cases politically motivated and said they had been used to harass opposition figures and suppress dissent.
A review process had been conducted before the finalisation of the decision, he added.
The government stated that the move aimed to ensure justice and restore democratic practices.
