NCP submits nomination papers for 47 seats
NCP has now fully embarked on it’s electoral journey, said NCP Convener Nahid Islam
The National Citizen Party (NCP) has submitted nomination papers for 47 constituencies, marking a formal step into the upcoming national elections.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam disclosed the information at an emergency press conference held this evening (29 December).
"We have entered into an electoral alliance with Jamaat-e-Islami to cross the electoral threshold, but the seat-sharing arrangement with the alliance has not yet been finalised," he said.
However, he also said that the exact number of seats to be contested under the alliance had not yet been finalised.
"That is why we have submitted nomination papers for 47 seats today," Nahid said.
He further informed reporters that an emergency online meeting of the NCP's political council was held earlier in the day, during which the new NCP joinee, former interim government adviser Asif Mahmud, was appointed as the party's spokesperson.
He also clarified that Asif Mahmud will not contest the elections; instead, he will focus on ensuring the success of NCP-backed candidates.
"Asif Mahmud has been assigned the responsibility of heading the party's election management committee," Nahid said.
Nahid Islam added that the NCP has now fully embarked on its electoral journey.
