Jamaat MP Gazi Nazrul alleges ousted AL govt removed his name from freedom fighters' list
In response, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said, “If he submits his documents to the ministry, the matter would be reviewed and all necessary steps would be taken.”
Jamaat-e-Islami lawmaker from Satkhira-4 Gazi Nazrul Islam has alleged that the ousted Awami League government removed his name from the official list of freedom fighters.
"After the 2006 election, when the Awami League government came to power, my name was struck off the freedom fighters' list," Gazi raised the allegation during a question-and-answer session in the Parliament today (31 March).
"Since then, I have been deprived of benefits. I have also been deprived of the honour that comes with being a freedom fighter. People in my area know me as a freedom fighter," he said.
He further said, "I want to know whether I will get back my lost honour. I took part in the Liberation War under the leadership of Major Jalil in Sector 9. I have all the necessary documents preserved and will present them."
"Many others like me have also been victimised, as some of our colleagues here mentioned," the MP said, adding that he would like to know whether they would have their title listed.
In response, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque said, "If he submits his documents to the ministry, the matter would be reviewed and all necessary steps would be taken."
The minister added, "We know that in the past, those of us who were in opposition politics were harassed and had our reputations damaged."
"The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has started working on this issue. I want to assure the honourable member that if all his documents are in order, he will certainly get it back."
