Jamaat chief calls for unity in national interest
He says true patriots can never abandon their country

Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has emphasised the need for national unity above party affiliations to build a humane Bangladesh.
"If we rise above party affiliation and unite for the national interest to build a humane Bangladesh, this nation will win," he said while speaking at a book launch event the National Press Club today (28 April).
He said, "True patriots can never abandon their country."
Shafique Rahman highlighted the patriotism of Jamaat's former nayeb-e-ameer Maulana Abdus Subhan.
He shared that despite the option of seeking political asylum abroad, Maulana Subhan chose to stay in his homeland, showcasing his unwavering commitment to his country.
He recalled that even while sentenced to death and confined to a condemned cell, Maulana Subhan remained unshaken and respected by fellow prisoners, who remarked that such a person was rare to find in jail.
The programme was chaired by Golam Kabir Haqqani, with special guests including BNP Chairperson's Advisor Shamsur Rahman Shimul Biswas, Dhaka Metropolitan North Jamaat Ameer Muhammad Selim Uddin, South Nayeb-e-Ameer Advocate Dr Helal Uddin, Shamim Sayedee, Barrister Najib Momen, and DUJ President Shahidul Islam.
