Ganatantri Party faction urges EC to uphold aspirants' nominations
On 12 December, the Election Commission instructed returning officers to annul the nominations of all Ganatantri Party candidates due to internal conflicts.

A faction of Gantantri Party has urged the Election Commission to uphold its candidates' nominations, which were revoked by the returning officers citing an internal feud within the party.
Dr Shahadat Hossain, the president of a faction of the party, on Saturday sent a letter to the Chief Election Commission (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal in this regard.
Previously, a total of 12 aspirants from the party submitted nominations, approved by two separate committees of the party, to the commission to run in the 12th national elections.
On 12 December, the EC ordered the returning officers to scrap the nominations of all the 12 aspirants because of the intra-party conflict. The commission also disapproved of the two separate committees under the same party name and decided to revoke its registration.
On Saturday, in the letter to the CEC, Dr Shahadat Hossain stated that the aspirants of his party were also willing to take part in the hearing to get back their candidatures.
Shahadat requested the CEC to initiate necessary measures to ensure participation of the Ganatantri Party in the national polls by upholding the nominations of all its candidates who were previously deemed eligible during the scrutiny by the returning officers.
He further urged the CEC to consider the matter for the sake of justice and uphold the candidatures of all valid party nominations, which were submitted separately from two committees by himself and Barrister Arsh Ali of the party.
Early last month, because of its internal party divisions, the Ganatantri Party was not sent an invitation letter to the Election Commission's dialogue with political parties.
