Khaleda Zia to fly to London once doctors declare her fit to travel: Fakhrul
“This is not only a flight issue. Her health condition is also a factor. Her condition worsened somewhat yesterday,” Fakhrul told reporters.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will be put on an air ambulance to send her to London for advanced medical treatment only when doctors confirm she is medically fit to board the aircraft, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (5 December).
Speaking to reporters after Jummah prayers in front of the mosque adjacent to the BNP's central office in Naya Paltan, he said, "Khaleda Zia is currently critically ill. If doctors ensure that she is suitable for air travel, she will be taken to London for advanced treatment."
A special prayer was held earlier at the mosque seeking her recovery.
According to doctors, if the air ambulance from Qatar arrives in Bangladesh on Saturday, it may be possible to fly her to London on Sunday.
Her planned departure was delayed yesterday due to a deterioration in her health and the unavailability of the Qatar air ambulance, he said.
"This is not only a flight issue. Her health condition is also a factor. Her condition worsened somewhat yesterday," Fakhrul told reporters.
Highlighting Khaleda's critical state, Fakhrul said, "Top medical specialists from home and abroad are treating her. But all believe that she now needs more advanced care in a hospital abroad, which is why the decision was made to take her to England."
The BNP leader alleged that the previous Awami League government kept Khaleda Zia imprisoned for six years, including two years in an isolated, outdated prison facility.
"Many believe her health complications began there. Due to inadequate treatment, her condition worsened. She has been seriously ill for the last four years since the Covid-19 pandemic. Though she recovered somewhat, she fell sick again recently."
