Expelled NCP organiser Muntasir seeks nomination from Muktijot
After his expulsion, Muntasir formed a platform named “Trinomool NCP” and took on the role of its convener. However, despite leading the new platform, he has chosen to contest the election from Muktijot
Muntasir Mahmud, who was expelled from the National Citizen Party (NCP) while serving as an organiser, has submitted his nomination for the upcoming 13th national parliamentary election from Bangladesh Sanskritic Muktijot.
Earlier on 5 November, Muntasir, a former central organiser of the Student Against Discrimination, was expelled from the NCP for repeatedly violating organisational discipline.
After his expulsion, Muntasir formed a platform named "Trinamool NCP" and took on the role of its convener. However, despite leading the new platform, he has chosen to contest the election from Muktijot, a registered political party, and has filed his nomination for the Dhaka-12 constituency.
According to the Election Commission sources, Muktijot has submitted nomination papers for 20 candidates in different constituencies across the country.
An analysis of Muntasir's affidavit submitted to the commission shows that the 30-year-old candidate is engaged in business, with an annual income of Tk10 lakh. He has Tk5 lakh in cash and Tk8 lakh deposited in two bank accounts. His declared assets include five bhori of gold, electrical goods worth Tk5 lakh, and furniture valued at Tk50,000.
In his income tax return, Muntasir declared assets worth Tk24 lakh and reported an annual income of Tk8,81,600.
Asked why he chose to seek nomination from Muktijot despite being a leader of Trinamool NCP, Muntasir told The Business Standard, "Trinamool NCP has only recently been announced and no formal party committee has been formed yet. Since Muktijot is a registered party and they offered me a nomination, I decided to respond positively."
He added, "My main goal is to contest the election and work for the people of the area where I was born. Which party I contest from is not the most important issue."
Muntasir also said, "For now, I intend to contest the election from Muktijot, although the decision can be changed later. So far, I have submitted my nomination only for the Dhaka-12 constituency, and if I contest, it will be from this seat."
