Delaying elections will push Bangladesh further back: Fakhrul
He also said BNP is optimistic that democracy will be established in the country through the upcoming election
The more elections are delayed, the further Bangladesh will fall behind, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said today (7 July).
"Investment, security, development will come to a halt. There can be no government stronger than an elected government," he told reporters in Sylhet.
He also said BNP is optimistic that democracy will be established in the country through the upcoming election.
"People will regain their lost rights, and the country will move forward on the right path," he said after visiting the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal in Sylhet this morning.
Mentioning that fruitful discussions on elections took place during CA Yunus's meeting with Tarique Rahman in London, he said, "The people of Bangladesh have fought for 17 long years to regain their democratic rights. As a continuation of this struggle, thousands of students and citizens have sacrificed their lives, and BNP expresses sympathy and respect for them."
Earlier, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with several central leaders of BNP, arrived at Sylhet Osmani Airport. They then went to visit the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (R).
After visiting the shrine, he spoke with journalists. Leaders of the Sylhet district and metropolitan BNP were present at the time.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and several central leaders of BNP came to Sylhet at the invitation of UK BNP President MA Malik.
In the afternoon, they will participate in a Milad and prayer gathering for the good health of party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman's well-being, followed by a rally.
After that, the central BNP leaders will participate in a program organised by the district and metropolitan BNP to honour the July fighters.
