The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has nominated just four candidates from minority communities in its recently announced 237-seat candidate list for the upcoming national elections, highlighting limited representation for Hindus and indigenous groups.
Among the Hindu nominees, Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, permanent committee member and former MP, will contest Dhaka-3, while Nitai Roy Chowdhury, former State Minister for Youth and Sports, has been nominated for Magura-2.
Notably, Nipun Roy Chowdhury, a prominent female leader, daughter-in-law of Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and daughter of Nitai Roy Chowdhury, had sought nomination from another Dhaka constituency.
From the indigenous communities, Advocate Dipen Dewan, former president of Rangamati District BNP and BNP co-secretary for religious affairs, will contest Rangamati, while Saching Pru, former Bandarban District BNP president and current convener, will represent Bandarban.
Pru is also a former MP.
