BNP getting no clear directives from interim government on election: Fakhrul
Mirza Fakhrul also expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the party is yet to receive clear directives from the interim government regarding the elections.
Addressing an extended meeting of the BNP at the LD Hall premises of the National Parliament today (27 February), he said, "The people of the country had high hopes after the change on 5 August, after the fascist Hasina fled the country. They expected a transformation, and their voting rights would be restored soon, allowing them to cast their votes and elect their representatives. But unfortunately, we are not receiving clear directives to that end."
"You have seen the sacrifices BNP had to make in its struggle for democracy and the people's rights," he added.
Mirza Fakhrul also expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in the country.
"Educational institutions, especially universities, are gradually losing their academic environment. There are attempts to remove the names of renowned scientists and litterateurs, particularly those born in East Bengal, from some universities," he said.
He also accused certain groups of conspiring against democracy.
"There are efforts from both within and outside the country to disrupt and obstruct democracy. Some groups within the country are misleading the people by misinterpreting the situation," he alleged.
The BNP's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, presided over the extended meeting virtually, while party chairperson Khaleda Zia joined as the chief guest via video conference.
