Police have arrested an individual with arms and ammunition from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar.

Confirming the matter, Officer In-Charge of Teknaf police station Mohammad Gias Uddin said the drive was conducted at Dargah Para in Teknaf's Hnila union early today (18 December).

The arrestee is Ataharul Haque, 19, son of Nurul Islam from Purbo Pankhali area under Hnila union.

"Police conducted the drive after receiving news that some armed men were passing through Dargah Para area to commit crimes early Wednesday. Setting up a temporary outpost in front of the local union parishad office, police started to conduct searches," Gias said.

"At one point, police asked a battery-run easybike to stop which was coming from the east. Sensing police presence, a suspected individual dropped a small packet from his waist and fled. At least 10 bullets were found after searching another person who was in the easybike, and a gun was found inside the packet that the escapee left," Gias added.

The OC further said a case has been filed with Teknaf police station under respective laws against the person who was found in the easybike.
