Armed robbers attack, leave bikers with severe injuries in Rupganj; helmet cam footage goes viral
A video of the incident, captured on Jisan’s helmet-mounted camera, has been circulating widely on social media since yesterday (11 September).
Two bikers were injured in a robbery incident in Narayanganj's Rupganj area, after being attacked by a group of armed men.
The victims were identified as Jisan, from Lalmai in Cumilla, and Faisal, from Chandina. The incident took place near the Bhulta-Gawsia road, shortly after they crossed the 300-feet highway.
Both were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Rupganj Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Mehedi Hasan.
Jisan sustained deep cuts on his hands, legs, and back, with one finger nearly severed, while Faisal suffered severe head injuries that required stitches, along with wounds on his hands and legs, police said.
A video of the incident, captured on Jisan's helmet-mounted camera, has been circulating widely on social media since yesterday (11 September).
The footage shows Jisan riding a Yamaha R15 bike on an under-construction road before being stopped by a group of assailants riding separate bikes. One of them was seen striking Jisan with a machete-like weapon, forcing him to flee on foot.
It also shows Jisan trying to take on the robbers, fighting back to protect his friend, while crying out for help from commuters in other vehicles. However, no help came from commuters or locals in the area.
The video further shows Jisan later getting on another motorcycle, which soon crashed into what is reportedly one of the attackers before the camera feed turned blurry.
According to Jisan, the attackers fired several gunshots and used sharp weapons during the assault.
They reportedly fled the scene with his Yamaha R15 V3 (Indonesian edition) motorcycle and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Jisan later claimed on Facebook that he still has access to the phone's Apple ID and possesses all relevant documents of the bike.
