The rain that started yesterday (29 May) morning and is continuing intermittently has caused waterlogging in various areas of Dhaka.
People are suffering immensely due to the lack of an adequate drainage system.

The residents of the capital who returned home after finishing their work last night suffered the most.
Ikbal Hossain left the office around 7pm and managed to reach home in Pallabi, Mirpur around 12am.
"I spent half of the night on the road yesterday. It took me two and a half hours to get out of the office and reach Kazipara in my car. Then, water entered the car's engine, and I had to tow it home in another vehicle. There was waist-deep water on the road," he told TBS.
Not only in Mirpur's Pallabi, but reports of waterlogging have also been received in most areas of the capital, including Matikata, Kazipara, Sheorapara, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Kawla, Abdullahpur, Bangshal, New Market, Paltan, Sayedabad, and Jatrabari, since yesterday afternoon.
Even though Friday is a weekend, those who went out for essential work are also suffering from waterlogging. Although the rain has subsided somewhat today, waterlogging remains in several areas, including Dhanmondi, Mirpur, New Market, and Paltan.
Many people are unable to get a rickshaw or any other vehicle, even after waiting for a long time. Sometimes, even if one or two rickshaws or CNG are available, they have to pay extra.
Some people are walking to their destination in knee-deep water without paying the additional fare.
Most of the roads in the capital are submerged under water. The people of Manda, Mugda, Basabo, Motijheel, and Kamalapur are the worst affected by the waterlogging.
The footpath hawkers have also suffered due to the severe waterlogging. Most of the shops located on the footpaths are closed. Although some shops are open, the vendors said there is no sale.
Meanwhile, to take quick and effective steps to resolve the waterlogging, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives has urgently set up a control room in the conference room of the Department of Public Health Engineering, with officials from the two city corporations.
If waterlogging occurs in any area, the city residents are requested to call the hotline numbers of Dhaka North City Corporation and Dhaka South City Corporation and provide information.
Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Mohammad Ejaz said if there is any news of waterlogging in any area of Dhaka North, immediate measures will be taken to resolve the waterlogging.
The concerned department has informed waterlogging in various places is largely under control due to the prior preparations of Dhaka North to resolve the waterlogging in Dhaka.
