Gold price hits record Tk1.78 lakh per bhori in Bangladesh
The new price will come into effect from today
The price of gold has soared to a historic high in Bangladesh, with Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus) raising the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk3,044 per bhori to Tk178,832.
Bajus announced the new rate in a statement last night (3 September), saying it will come into effect from Thursday.
According to the notification, the price of acid gold (pure gold) has increased in the local market.
Considering the overall situation, the association has fixed the revised price.
As per the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been set at Tk170,703 per bhori, 18-carat at Tk146,313, and traditional gold at Tk121,166 per bhori.
Bajus also mentioned that the selling price of gold will include 5% VAT as fixed by the government and a minimum wage of 6% set by it, though making charges may vary depending on design and quality.
Earlier on 1 September, Bajus last adjusted the prices, hiking the rate of 22-carat gold by Tk1,470 to Tk175,788 per bhori.
