Banglalink launches Bangladesh's first 'Voice over WiFi' call service
The calls will be charged at the same rate as regular mobile calls, with no additional fees.

Banglalink has introduced Voice over WiFi (VoWiFi) service in Bangladesh for the first time, enabling mobile users to make phone calls using WiFi instead of mobile networks.

With the service, customers can make calls even in areas with weak or no mobile network signals—such as inside homes, offices, or basements—as long as they are connected to WiFi, the telecom operator said in a statement today (4 September).
The calls will be charged at the same rate as regular mobile calls, with no additional fees.
Johan Buse, chief executive officer of Banglalink, said, "VoWiFi will make staying connected simpler, clearer, and more reliable, helping our customers enjoy a seamless digital lifestyle wherever they are."
He added, "This milestone underlines our promise to deliver technology that truly serves people's needs and supports Bangladesh's digital future. We are grateful to the regulator and stakeholders for enabling us to bring this service to our customers."
The service is being rolled out on a pilot basis in Dhaka and Chattogram in partnership with selected internet service providers, after receiving approval from the telecom regulator.
Banglalink said it plans to expand the service nationwide gradually.
