The Experiences Faced by Women Migrant Workers Abroad
Rasheda Akhter (pseudonym) spent nearly 13 years of her life abroad. After separating from her husband, she went to Lebanon almost two decades ago for a job that paid only Tk 7,000 a month. Despite enduring immense hardship and working there for more than three years, she was forced to return home almost empty-handed. Back in Bangladesh, she once again had to migrate overseas to earn a livelihood. However, her journey to Dubai turned out to be a far better experience for Rasheda.
