A parked Naf Paribahan minibus caught fire on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in the Siddhirganj area of Narayanganj this morning (15 November).
No casualties were reported, confirmed Siddhirganj Police Station Officer in Charge Shahinur Alam, adding that an investigation is underway to determine whether it was sabotage or a mechanical fault.
The incident took place at around 6am in the Shimrail area in front of the local Roads and Highways Department office.
In the morning, locals noticed smoke and flames coming from inside the bus and alerted the fire service.
A fire service unit later brought the blaze under control. The seats and interior of the bus were burnt.
According to Siddhirganj police, the driver had parked the bus in front of the office at about 10pm last night (14 November).
There have been several incidents of arson recently, especially ahead of the banned Awami League's "lockdown" programme on 13 November.
Earlier, on 11 November, a man was killed and two others were critically injured in an arson attack on a bus in Mymensingh.
The spate of arson and crude bomb attacks over the last few days has raised concerns over public safety, despite what authorities describe as heightened security measures across the country.
