Numerous programmes planned for golden jubilee of independence

Extensive programmes have been chalked out to celebrate the golden jubilee of the country's independence, and Mujib Year, from 26 March to 16 December this year.

"The year-around celebration will begin on the afternoon of 26 March with a colourful and festive inauguration. Guests and political leaders from different countries will attend," Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Huq told the press Sunday after emerging from the first Cabinet Committee meeting on the golden jubilee celebration.

The minister, who is also the president of the committee, said a logo and theme song for the celebration will be introduced by February.

AKM Mozammel said there will also be mobile games and animated cartoons about the Liberation War. Additionally, the programmes include launching books and e-books featuring the country's history before, during and after independence.

In the meantime, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Tapan Kanti Ghosh said the programmes will aim for the maximum breadth of outreach – including to rural and remote parts of the country.

While explaining the celebration plan, the secretary said there could be 50 freedom fighters visiting the entire country carrying national flags. The district administrations will hold big rallies upon their arrival to their respective areas.

Tapan Kanti said movies, documentaries, short films, advertisements, and more will be screened by mobile vans in places.

Story-telling by the freedom fighters will be held so that the youths can learn about our Liberation War in depth, he said, adding that seminars on genocide and different online contests will also be arranged.

Minister AKM Mozammel said the prime minister will finalise the plans.
