NHRC and UNDP jointly launch programmes to mark International Women’s Day

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) jointly organised a dialogue and TV show titled "Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a Covid-19 world," commemorating International Women's Day 2021

Alongside the media segments, the two organisations also launched a joint campaign on Women's Safety in Public Places (WSPP) in collaboration with Young Bangla and actress Bidya Sinha Saha Mim to raise awareness on this pressing issue affecting women and girls all over Bangladesh, said a press release issued by UNDP on Monday.

Besides these, the Human Rights and Justice Program (HRJP) of UNDP also hosted a virtual mobile photography exhibition to showcase photographs taken by a group of youths, principally from left-behind communities.

The photographs were taken using their mobile phones to capture the lives of women and girls in their communities, the release said.

A total of 26 young female and male participants attended a mobile photography workshop as preparation for the exhibition which was facilitated by renowned photographer Prito Reza.

One aspiring young photographer, Sumita Rabidas, from Gaibandha district, while sharing her experience and excitement about the workshop said, "When I previously thought of mobile photographs, I thought of the selfie. After attending the workshop and capturing photos of the women community of my locality, I have realised the power of mobile photography."

"Since I am from a left-behind community, I know very well about the struggle of women and girls here. Because of this first-hand experience, I am confident that I will be able to portray the struggle of women and girls from my community on the occasion of International Women Day 2021," said Sumita.

The online exhibition (http://iwdexhibition.jubobangla.com.bd/) is live from March 8 and will continue for a month, where viewers will be able to share comments and opinions on the photos taken.
