Murder accused beaten to death in Rajshahi, 6 cops injured

A mob yesterday (4 April) beat to death a youth named Aminul Islam, who was accused of killing fish trader Abdur Razzak in Bagmara upazila of Rajshahi.
Six police officers were injured while trying to rescue the accused, according to police.
The incident took place in Ranshibari Bazar area of Jhikra union in Bagmara upazila.
Confirming the matter, Bagmara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Touhidul Islam said, "Aminul Islam was arguing with Abdur Razzak at a tea shop. At one stage of the argument, he took a knife from a nearby blacksmith shop and stabbed Abdur Razzak to death. Hearing this news, 1,000-1,500 locals beat Aminul to death."
Sources said when locals came to know about Abdur Razzak's death, they chased Aminul. Aminul took shelter in a house in Ranshibari. Then, the angry mob surrounded the house. At one stage, around 7:30pm, the mob broke the door of the house and entered inside. They took Aminul out of the house and beat him to death.
Sub-Inspector Sadikul Islam and five other police officers were injured when they tried to stop the locals, OC Touhidul said.
The bodies of the deceased have been taken to the hospital for autopsies and legal proceedings are underway, the OC added.
