Rajshahi petrol pump owners threaten strike from Monday over fuel shortage
Owners claimed that while a few filling stations are receiving limited supplies, many others have been forced to suspend operations entirely as they are not receiving fuel according to their requirements.
The Rajshahi District Petrol Pump and Tank Lorry Owners' Association has threatened to halt operations from Monday (16 March) if the government fails to ensure an adequate supply of fuel to the northern region.
The announcement came following reports of severe supply disruptions across all 42 petrol pumps in the district.
Owners claimed that while a few filling stations are receiving limited supplies, many others have been forced to suspend operations entirely as they are not receiving fuel according to their requirements.
Monimul Haq, president of the association, stated that the inconsistent supply is creating significant internal conflicts among pump owners.
Furthermore, he claimed the shortage has led to frequent heated arguments between station staff and frustrated customers.
"If the supply is not restored to meet our demand, all petrol pumps in Rajshahi will stop extracting oil from Monday (16 March)," Haq warned.
He added that the Rajshahi District Petrol Pump and Tank Lorry Owners' Association plans to submit a formal memorandum to the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources through the Rajshahi district administration to address the crisis.
