Munshiganj protesters demand women's safety, punishment of rapists

Protesters at a rally and human chain demanded women's safety and punishment of rapists in Munshiganj today (23 February).
A rally and protest march by students, women and general people commenced at the Munshiganj Press Club around 5pm.
Speakers including Farzana Akhter, Parveen Akhter, Shahnaz Begum, Nijhum Haolder, Azizul Haque, Fardeen Nabil, and Md Nirob addressed the gathering.
Following the rally, a procession marched through the town, circling Thana pool square and concluding at the Central Shaheed Minar in the old Kachari area.
Separately, students in Srinagar, Munshiganj, held a procession and human chain with the same demands.
General students of Srinagar Government College brought out the procession from the college premises, which ended at the Srinagar Press Club. Later, they formed an hour-long human chain there.
Citing the case documents, the OC said the victim is a garment worker in Narayanganj.
On 6 February, a garment worker was gang raped while returning after work to her husband in Baluchar, Munshiganj.
Police yesterday (21 February) arrested a man in a case filed over gang rape of the garment worker.
