213 workers killed, 170 injured in workplace accidents between Jan-Feb: Report
The transportation sector recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 182 deaths

As many as 213 workers were killed and 170 others injured in workplace accidents across the country in the first two months of 2025, according to the Bangladesh Institute of Labour Studies (BILS).
A study titled "BILS Newspaper-Based Survey on Bangladesh's Labor and Workplace Situation 2024" was released today (28 April), where it was shown that the transportation sector recorded the highest number of fatalities, with 182 deaths.
It was followed by seven deaths in construction, three in the garment sector and 21 in other sectors.
Out of 170 workplace injuries, the transport sector reported the highest number with 70 incidents, followed by other sectors with 70 injuries, 18 in construction, and two in the garment sector.
According to the report, 736 workers were killed and 300 injured in workplace accidents last year.
Of the deceased workers, 734 were male and two were female.
Natural disasters also played a role, with 55 workers, primarily from the fisheries sector, going missing last year.
