Police have arrested one Md Rizwan Uddin in connection with the murder of scrap trader Lal Chand alias Md Sohag, 39.

He was one of the main accused who was allegedly seen smashing a concrete boulder onto the trader on the street in front of Sir Salimullah Medical College Mitford Hospital in Dhaka, confirmed Md Talebur Rahman, the deputy commissioner (media and public relations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

A team from the DMP's Detective Branch (DB) arrested the suspect from the Itbaria area of Patuakhali on Tuesday night, Patuakhali police's Additional Superintendent of Police Sajedul Islam said on Wednesday morning.

"He was tracked down to a house in Itbaria and taken into custody," said a source seeking anonymity.

With this, nine people have been arrested in the case so far.

Earlier, on Sunday (13 July), two accused—Sajib and Rajib—were arrested from Dhaka and Netrokona.

They have been put on a five-day remand for interrogation.

The murder took place on 9 July, when Sohag, a local scrap trader, was killed in front of Mitford Hospital shortly before sundown.

CCTV footage, which surfaced on social media the following day, showed several men dragging Sohag's bloodied body onto the adjacent road, where the assault continued.

According to police and local sources, the attack stemmed from a longstanding dispute over control of the illicit copper wire and scrap trade in the Mitford area.
