Man arrested, sent to jail for paying tribute to Sheikh Mujib at Dhanmondi 32
A Dhaka court denied Arnab Das’s bail after police arrested him under the Anti-Terrorism Act, alleging links to the banned Jubo League.
A Dhaka court today (15 August) sent a man to jail after he was detained while paying tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi 32 on his death anniversary.
The accused, Arnab Das, 32, was shown arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Dhanmondi Police Station.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order after a hearing this afternoon, rejecting Das's bail petition.

Earlier, Sub-Inspector Md Ariful Islam, the investigation officer in the case, produced Das before the court and sought his detention in jail until the investigation is completed.
According to the prosecution, Das was initially questioned after his detention and provided information indicating his involvement in the case. Police are verifying the information, including his identity and address, and continuing the investigation.
The investigating officer also told the court that Das could flee if released on bail and might become involved in further anti-terrorism activities.
He also said police might seek his remand later for the sake of the investigation.
Lawyers Liton Mia and DK Gayen Tito, among others, sought bail for Das, while the state opposed the petition.
Following arguments from both sides, the court rejected the bail plea and ordered him sent to jail.
Das was not brought into the courtroom during the hearing.
Police detained Das around 10am today from Dhanmondi 32, where he had gone to pay tribute to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Dhanmondi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Imdadul Islam earlier told The Business Standard that police had initially learned that Das was an active member of the banned Jubo League.
According to the case statement, the accused are members of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League and the banned Awami League and Jubo League.
It alleges that they conspired and gathered in processions to carry out acts of violence, create unrest in the country and spread fear among the public.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Babon Uddin of Dhanmondi Model Police Station filed the case under the Anti-Terrorism Act in connection with the alleged activities.
