Amid the everyday rush of Dhaka's Airport Railway Station, a moment of pure human resilience and kindness unfolded today (10 February), as 22-year-old Ruma Akhter brought a new life into the world right on the station platform.

Ruma, who had just arrived by train from Brahmanbaria around 12:30pm, suddenly went into labour, said a press release issued by Dhaka district railway police.

In an instant, what was an ordinary train platform turned into an emergency maternity ward.

Seeing Ruma's distress, railway police created a makeshift delivery room using plastic tarpaulin. As worried onlookers held their breath, the air soon filled with the first cries of a newborn baby girl — a moment of joy amid the usual bustle of the train station.

Both mother and child are healthy and have been admitted to Kurmitola Hospital, said the release.
