Maldives foreign minister signs condolence book on Khaleda Zia at Bangladesh High Commission in Malé
Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of Maldives Abdulla Khaleel has visited the Bangladesh High Commission in Malé to sign the condolence book opened in memory of Khaleda Zia, three-time former prime minister of Bangladesh and the country's first woman prime minister.
During the visit, the Maldivian foreign minister conveyed his deep condolences and expressed solidarity with the government and people of Bangladesh at a time of national mourning, said a press release.
He also mentioned that the Special Envoy of the President of the Maldives and Minister of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development Ali Haidar Ahmed who attended the funeral prayers of the late former prime minister in Bangladesh, spoke highly of the warm hospitality extended by the government and people of Bangladesh. Abdulla Khaleel echoed this appreciation and expressed his gratitude.
The condolence book was signed in the presence of Bangladesh High Commissioner to the Maldives Nazmul Islam. The high commissioner expressed sincere appreciation to the foreign minister for his gesture of sympathy and support, and recalled with respect the lifelong commitment and sacrifices of Begum Khaleda Zia in the cause of democracy in Bangladesh.
Officials of the Bangladesh High Commission received the Maldivian foreign minister on the occasion. The high commissioner introduced him to the officers and staff of the mission, reflecting the cordial and friendly atmosphere of the visit.
The gesture was described as a reflection of shared values of respect, empathy and solidarity, and as a meaningful expression of friendship during Bangladesh's period of national mourning.
The Bangladesh High Commission expressed gratitude to the foreign minister, the government and the people of the Maldives for their messages of sympathy and support, noting that the expression of solidarity reflects the longstanding friendly relations, mutual respect and close cooperation between Bangladesh and the Maldives.
