Tarique set to tour northern districts in 4-day visit from Sunday
The party has officially described the visit as a series of religious and social programmes intended to honour the martyrs of the July Uprising and the nation’s long-standing democratic movement.
BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman is set to begin a four-day visit to North Bengal this Sunday (11 January).
The party has officially described the visit as a series of religious and social programmes intended to honour the martyrs of the July Uprising and the nation's long-standing democratic movement.
The BNP has formally notified the Election Commission, relevant deputy commissioners, and election officers of the itinerary to ensure full compliance with the electoral code of conduct.
The party emphasised that the visit will not violate any regulations as the nation prepares for the general election scheduled for 12 February.
The tour carries significant symbolic weight as Tarique Rahman plans to visit the graves of prominent figures, including the legendary leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhasani, the July Uprising martyr Shaheed Abu Sayed, and his grandmother, the late Begum Taiba Majumder.
In addition to offering prayers, the BNP acting chairman is scheduled to meet with the families of those killed and injured during the 2024 mass uprising to offer his condolences and support.
According to the travel schedule, Tarique Rahman will depart from Dhaka on 11 January, travelling through Tangail and Sirajganj before staying overnight in Bogura.
On 12 January, he will head to Pirganj in Rangpur and Dinajpur, eventually staying the night in Thakurgaon.
The following day, 13 January, the journey will continue through Panchagarh, Nilphamari, and Lalmonirhat, with an overnight stay in Rangpur. The tour will conclude on 14 January as he returns to Dhaka via Bogura.
