6 held over Mohammadpur murder, weapons hunt continues
DMP’s Mohammadpur zone assistant commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter.
Police and RAB arrested six people, including the main accused, in separate raids in Mohammadpur and Nawabganj today (17 April) over the murder of Asadul Haque, with operations ongoing to recover weapons and arrest accomplices.
RAB-2 arrested Asadul and Shawon from the Metro Housing area in Mohammadpur. Mohammadpur Model Police Station arrested Akhtar, Munna, Arif and Khokon from Nawabganj.
DMP's Mohammadpur zone assistant commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed the matter to TBS. He said police arrested four suspects, including the main accused, while RAB detained two.
"We are conducting drives to recover the weapons used in the killing. Operations are also ongoing to arrest other accomplices. We will brief the media soon," he said.
RAB-2 deputy director (media) Major M Mubin Rahman Tapas said Asadul Islam is the fifth suspect and Shawon the sixth suspect identified in CCTV footage of the incident.
Earlier, around 12:50am on 16 April, Asadul Haque alias Lambu Asadul, 28, was hacked to death on a road near Sadek Khan's brickfield in the Rayerbazar Beribadh area of Mohammadpur.
He was the son of Jalil Sardar from Kalna area under Gournadi upazila in Barishal and lived with his family in a rented flat in B-block of Metro Housing in Mohammadpur.
Police and local sources said Asadul was a small-time drug trader in the area. He was allegedly killed by members of his own group over disputes related to drug sales and financial transactions. Several cases, including drugs and snatching, were filed against him with Mohammadpur Police Station.
