Dhaka’s Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zoshita Islam recorded her confessional statement
Domestic worker Ayesha Akhter today (17 December) confessed before a court that she attacked and killed a mother and her daughter in Mohammadpur after being caught stealing.
According to court sources, Ayesha told the court that she had started working at the Mohammadpur residence with the intention of committing theft. She said she carried a sharp knife with her regularly, claiming it was useful for cutting and slicing items.
After six days on remand, she was produced before the court today. As she voluntarily agreed to make a confessional statement, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Shahidul Osman Masum, applied for it to be recorded.
Dhaka's Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam recorded her confession and ordered that Ayesha be sent to jail.
In her statement, Ayesha admitted that she attacked the mother and daughter when they discovered her stealing. She also said she had previously entered several homes under the pretext of working there, committed theft, and then fled.
Describing events after the killings, she told the court that she changed into a school uniform, went to a pharmacy to have her injured hand bandaged, and left the area by rickshaw. She later said that she and her husband destroyed the evidence used in the double murder.
Ayesha also admitted to providing false information to her mother to conceal the crime, claiming her hand injury was the result of a bus accident.
Earlier, on 15 December, Ayesha's husband, Rabbi Sikder, had also given a confessional statement. The couple was arrested on 10 December from Charkaya village in Nolchiti Upazila, Jhalokathi.
According to the case document, Ayesha began working as a part-time domestic helper at the house of plaintiff Azizul Islam on 5 December. On the morning of 8 December, around 7 am, Azizul went to his workplace in Uttara. He called his wife by phone from his workplace but failed to reach her.
