July uprising belongs to everyone; we must move forward together: Adviser Mahfuj

Adviser Mahfuj Alam has urged all to move forward unitedly, stating that the emblem of the 2024 student-people uprising in July belongs to everyone.
"This uprising belongs to everyone. That is why I rejected the 'mastermind hype' created by the media from the very beginning," he wrote in a post on his verified Facebook profile last night (18 February).
Mahfuj mentioned that those who made decisions with regard to the uprising consulted with numerous stakeholders for almost every decision.
"We had to listen to and analyse the opinions of at least five to six groups before making a choice and finalising a decision. Therefore, this reflects the collective strategic capability of our decision-making body, as well as the participation and advice of many groups of people. No one is insignificant here, and the people certainly did not sit idle from '19-33 July' waiting for someone else's decisions," he wrote.
The adviser wrote that the people always recognised the legitimate leadership of students from public-private institutions, madrasas, schools, and colleges during the uprising.
"We must maintain our middle ground. We must move forward together by excluding saboteurs. Sabotage or backstabbing and the habit of disregarding honour codes threaten any arrangement. Those who think politics does not involve gentlemen's agreements should correct themselves," he wrote.
In the Facebook post, Mahfuj acknowledged that some of his statements might have hurt certain individuals and expressed his sincere apology.
"Some of my statements may have hurt some people, especially the mention of 'Tawhidi Janata.' I sincerely apologise to those who were displeased or upset by my remarks," he wrote.
"Moreover, if anyone felt hurt or considered any of my other statements over the past few months as divisive, I am in favour of reconsidering those remarks. Adopting a balanced, non-divisive, and anti-tagging stance is crucial for unity among the people. We do not wish to be seen as oppressors or the oppressed," he added.
Mahfuj wrote, "We have countless enemies, and all of them are powerful. Our allies are very few. If we can make some concessions to increase our alliances and defeat our enemies, it will ultimately benefit the people of this country."
"The unity of all forces in the mass uprising is our destination. There was a possibility of creating a historic bloc. It still exists. The anti-fascist and pro-Bangladesh communities must engage in positive political competition among themselves. Under no circumstances should fascist forces be given space in politics," he added.
