Leaders of a faction of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) on Sunday submitted a memorandum to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal demanding a stop to filing of motivated cases against journalists as well as attacks during the course of conducting their professional activities.

DUJ president Abu Jafar Surjo, General Secretary Sohel Haider Chowdhury, Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) Secretary General Shaban Mahmud along with others submitted the memorandum to the minister at his Ministry.

Journalists urged the minister to ensure the demands outlined in their memorandum.

Journos demanded the arrest and punishment of the criminals who attacked journalists during the elections to two Dhaka city corporations after consulting the victims.

They also demanded the government to take responsibility of treatment and give compensations to injured journalists including withdrawal of cases filed against journalists during conducting their professional responsibilities.

Journalists demanded to stop suppression and harassment by police on them and sought to form a committee with police and journalists if necessary.

Demanding professional security, journalists sought to finish the ongoing trial of Sagar-Runi murder case.
