Jamaat won’t accept election under ‘rotten’ practices: Shafiqur
He calls for transparent polls early next year

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will not accept any election conducted in the corrupt framework of the past, party Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman said today (23 July).
Speaking at a rally in Sylhet's Beanibazar, the Jamaat chief said a free and fair election is essential to restore order in the country, expressing hope that the next national election will be held in early next year.
"Jamaat's clear stance is that we do not want, nor will we accept, any new election held in the rotten mould of the past. The election must be transparent, impartial, free from muscle power and black money," he said.
He added that all necessary measures must be taken to ensure such conditions are met before the next general election.
Noting that a delay in the election could lead to complications, Shafiqur remarked, "Jamaat is aware of the potential challenges that could arise. However, we do not want any premature delivery either."
The Jamaat chief also mentioned that thousands of crores had been laundered from the country over the past 16 years.
Stressing that no responsible Jamaat leader has fled the country, the party chief said that they love this country and its people.
Several central and Sylhet divisional leaders of Jamaat also addressed the gathering.
