‘February election foundational’: CA sets key reforms, July Charter as priority
No alternative to holding national polls in first half of February, he says

The interim government has no alternative but to hold the national election in the first half of February, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus said yesterday (11 September).
"Keeping the election ahead, we must finalise the essential reforms, while bearing in mind that we have no alternative to holding the election in the first half of February," he said at a meeting of the National Consensus Commission at the state guest house Jamuna, Dhaka.
The two-hour meeting, chaired by the chief adviser, discussed in detail the commission's proposals for implementing the July Charter and the recommendations submitted by political parties, according to the Chief Adviser's Press Wing.
Prof Yunus stressed that reform is one of the three core mandates of the current interim government, and therefore, the July Charter must be given equal priority alongside elections and justice.
"The upcoming national election in February is not just an ordinary election," he said, adding, "It is a foundational election that will shape the roadmap for Bangladesh's future."
The commission members said they will soon submit their report to the interim government. To advance the process, the National Consensus Commission will hold another round of talks with political parties on Sunday (14 September).
