Inqilab Mancha resumes Shahbagh sit-in after Tarique's visit to Hadi's grave
Earlier, protesters under the banner of Inqilab Mancha had temporarily shifted their position from the Shahbagh intersection to the area in front of Aziz Super Market this morning.
Activists of Inqilab Mancha returned to the Shahbagh intersection this afternoon (27 December), resuming their sit-in shortly after BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman concluded his visit to the grave of the platform's slain leader Sharif Osman Hadi.
The protesters, who had spent the previous night in a sit-in at the intersection, had temporarily shifted their position to the Aziz Super Market area at around 9:30am to facilitate Tarique's visit and maintain security.
Tarique laid a wreath and offered prayers at Hadi's grave, located beside national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam's grave near the DU Central Mosque.
During his visit, Tarique was greeted by large crowds of supporters and departed the DU campus at approximately 11:52am to head toward the Election Commission to complete his voter registration process.
At around 12:30pm, following Tarique Rahman's departure from the Dhaka University (DU) campus, hundreds of Inqilab Mancha activists went back to the intersection from the Bangladesh Medical University area.
They were chanting slogans such as "Inqilab Inqilab, Zindabad-Zindabad" and "Shahbagh na Insaaf, Insaaf-Insaaf," re-establishing their sit-in at the spot they call "Shaheed Hadi Square".
Last night, Inqilab Mancha announced that it would continue its blockade at the Shahbagh intersection until those responsible for Hadi's killing are arrested, after their sit-in began after Jumma prayers earlier in the day.
Speaking to activists at around 9pm yesterday, Inqilab Mancha Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber said the blockade would not be withdrawn under any circumstances until justice is ensured.
The platform has been demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for the assassination of Sharif Osman Hadi.
Hadi, an aspiring independent candidate for the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot in the Paltan area on 12 December and succumbed to his injuries in Singapore on 18 December.
As the news of his death spread, widespread protests broke out across Dhaka and several other districts late that night, with demonstrations continuing into the early hours of the next day.
