2.26cr children gets Vitamin ‘A’ Plus capsules
Children were given capsules thru 1,20,000 EPI centres

National Vitamin A Plus campaign was conducted today (15 March), distributing Vitamin A capsules to an estimated 22.6 million children between the ages of 6 and 59 months across the country.
As part of the countrywide campaign, children aged 6-11 months received blue capsules, while children aged 12-59 months received red capsules, said a PID handout.
With the slogan of "Feed vitamin A, reduce the risk of child mortality," the campaign will be carried out at all districts, upazilas and unions throughout the country.
The children were given the capsules through 1,20,000 EPI (Expanded Programme on Immunisation) centres across the country.
"Many of our children cannot receive adequate breast milk or the proper amount of Vitamin A-rich food. As a result, a significant portion of children under five suffer from Vitamin A deficiency and related diseases. To address this deficiency in a cost-effective and timely manner, it is essential to provide children with Vitamin A capsules," said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare .
Parents and guardians of children aged 6 months to 5 years were earlier urged to bring their children to the nearest permanent EPI centeres to administer Vitamin A capsules.
Vitamin A not only prevents blindness but also helps reduce the under-five mortality rate by nearly a quarter.
