Hatirjheel motorcycle hijacking at gunpoint actually a shooting scene

A recent video of a motorcycle hijacking at gunpoint in broad daylight in the capital's Hatirjheel area by four youths that went viral on social media was actually a shooting scene.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the matter in a statement today (28 February).
The scene was captured around 11:00am on Wednesday as part of an awareness video filmed by some content creators to make drivers in the capital aware of hijacking and the pistol used in the video is also a toy pistol, the statement said.
After the video was posted on Facebook, aimed at creating awareness among the people about hijacking, some people later spread the fragmented part of the video on social media as a robbery incident, it added.
According to the statement, spreading such fragmented videos or news on social media without knowing the complete and real incident has the potential to create fear and insecurity in the public mind.
The DMP has requested all to be careful in spreading such fragmented videos or news without verifying the real incident.
