Abdul Kader claims NCP forming alliance with Jamaat, warns of 'end of youth politics'
However, there has been no official confirmation of any such alliance from either Jamaat-e-Islami or the National Citizen Party so far
Former coordinator of the Students Against Discrimination Abdul Kader has claimed that the National Citizen Party (NCP) is forming an alliance with Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, warning that such a move would spell the end of youth-led politics and effectively subsume the NCP into Jamaat.
Abdul Kader, also a former convener of the defunct Dhaka University unit of the Democratic Students' Union, wrote in his Facebook profile today (25 December), "the grave of youth politics is about to be dug".
"The NCP is finally forming a direct alliance with Jamaat. Ignoring the hopes and aspirations of people and party activists across the country, they have taken this self-destructive decision solely to serve the interests of a handful of leaders," he added.
"If everything goes according to plan, the announcement of this alliance may come tomorrow. Through this, the NCP will, in effect, be absorbed into the womb of Jamaat," he added.
In the same post, Abdul Qader claimed that the NCP initially demanded 50 parliamentary seats from Jamaat, which was later finalised at 30 seats after negotiations.
"According to the terms of the alliance, the NCP will not field candidates in the remaining 270 seats and will instead support Jamaat in those constituencies," he wrote.
However, there has been no official confirmation of any such alliance from either Jamaat-e-Islami or the National Citizen Party so far.
